Yet she remains as<br \/>\nconvinced now as ever. \u201cI do not understand how a foundation can operate<br \/>\nwithout a grantmaking software system. In partnership with Blackbaud, we have been able to take advantage of innovative technologies to implement streamlined processes and be as efficient as possible.\u201d<\/h4>\n            <\/div>\n            <div class=\"pull-quote__wrapper-name\">\n                Sue Fulton            <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"pull-quote__wrapper-role\">\n                    Chief Financial Officer                <\/div>\n                                        <div class=\"pull-quote__wrapper-organization\">\n                    Endowment for Health                <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"wysiwyg wysiwyg-white white-bg\" id=\"wysiwyg-block_70cf204f97d49a080eb2847a7c9996be\">\n            <h3>An Effective Tool for Transparency,<br \/>\nCompliance, and Communication<\/h3>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">Fulton continues to trust in Blackbaud\u2019s grantmaking solution to<br \/>\nsupport transparency, visibility, and compliance for the Endowment,<br \/>\nwhether she\u2019s reporting to the Endowment\u2019s Board of Directors or<br \/>\nshe\u2019s preparing for an annual audit. \u201cSince we started in 2001, when<br \/>\nour auditors come in, I\u2019m able to provide them exactly what they are<br \/>\nlooking for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nShe credits Blackbaud Grantmaking for evolving effective<br \/>\ncommunication and efficient workflows that allow staff and their<br \/>\ngrant partners to maximize their impact on public health.<br \/>\nTo illustrate, she pointed to an Endowment community partner,<br \/>\nthe Southern New Hampshire Area Health Education Center, which<br \/>\noperates NH Needs Caregivers, a program to address the licensed<br \/>\nnursing assistant workforce shortage in the state. When the program<br \/>\nreached out to the Endowment after an unexpected disruptive delay<br \/>\nin other expected funding, Endowment staff completed the review<br \/>\nand approval process, providing grant funding within 24 hours.<br \/>\nThe efficiency in workflows allowed the NH Needs Caregivers<br \/>\nprogram to operate seamlessly, and 12 individuals were licensed as<br \/>\nlicensed nursing assistants in the three-week period that may have<br \/>\notherwise caused the program to end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nGrants Program Associate Andie Hession sees similar advantages, though<br \/>\nshe has a different vantage point. Hession joined the Endowment just after<br \/>\nits 20th anniversary, bringing a background in public health, environmental<br \/>\neducation, and sustainable food systems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nWhile she hadn\u2019t used Blackbaud Grantmaking before joining the<br \/>\nEndowment, Hession said learning and using the solution has been a<br \/>\npositive experience. The Endowment even made additional<br \/>\ncopies and distributed for review. \u201cI think of the time and dollars wasted<br \/>\nmaking copies, folders, and filing the paper applications,\u201d Fulton said.<br \/>\nOnline grantmaking has improved the review process and given a wider<br \/>\ngroup of organizations better, easier access to the Endowment\u2019s application<br \/>\nand reporting tools. Fulton and Hession welcome Blackbaud\u2019s continued<br \/>\ninvestments in streamlining the technology. \u201cEquity is central to the future<br \/>\nof our grantmaking,\u201d Hession said, \u201cand these technology upgrades are<br \/>\nimportant to ease administrative burdens for applicants.\u201d<\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n<section class=\"in-story-fact\" id=\"in-story-fact-block_5c40365771b52bc738ddede1fcaf9df4\">\n            <div class=\"in-story-fact__wrapper\">\n                    <div class=\"in-story-fact__item w-lg-50\">\n                <h3>\n                    <mark>$60M<\/mark>\n                <\/h3>\n                <p class=\"body-large\">awarded<\/p>\n            <\/div>\n                    <div class=\"in-story-fact__item w-lg-50\">\n                <h3>\n                    <mark>1,500+<\/mark>\n                <\/h3>\n                <p class=\"body-large\">grants<\/p>\n            <\/div>\n                    <div class=\"in-story-fact__item w-lg-50\">\n                <h3>\n                    <mark>20 Years<\/mark>\n                <\/h3>\n                <p class=\"body-large\">years investing in New Hampshire&#8217;s health<\/p>\n            <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"wysiwyg wysiwyg-white white-bg\" id=\"wysiwyg-block_16be012062465deec2bf632587f8f9b2\">\n            <h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Support for Field Building, Strategic Initiatives<\/h3>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">Beyond functionality and efficiency, Blackbaud Grantmaking and the<br \/>\ncustomization features of its Blueprint module have been a key element in<br \/>\nsupporting a shift in the Endowment\u2019s grantmaking philosophy to a fieldbuilding approach that began in 2014.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nAbout 90% of the Endowment for Health\u2019s grant awards are strategic<br \/>\ninvestments that align with work by program directors around five targeted<br \/>\nstatewide initiatives: Healthy Aging, Health Policy, Health Equity, Children\u2019s<br \/>\nBehavioral Health, and Early Childhood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nTo tackle complex social problems, the Endowment works in partnership<br \/>\nwith community members, civic leaders, organizations, advocates, and<br \/>\nexperts from many sectors to jointly reach common goals. \u201cSometimes<br \/>\nstrategies are identified by a coalition or working group focused on a<br \/>\npriority area. Sometimes the innovative ideas come from grant seekers.<br \/>\nAnd sometimes the Endowment identifies opportunities based on<br \/>\nresearch, emerging practices, or the good work of other funders,\u201d<br \/>\nHession said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nIn the beginning, community partners were unfamiliar with the approach<br \/>\nand concerned about its effectiveness, Fulton and Hession explained. Now,<br \/>\nstakeholders in each field can articulate specific examples of how their<br \/>\nwork is stronger for these investments. Partners in the field of Children\u2019s<br \/>\nBehavioral Health, for example, convened to develop shared goals. They<br \/>\nhave been successful in advocating for inclusion of children\u2019s mental health<br \/>\nin the state\u2019s 10-year Mental Health Plan, introducing Rapid Response<br \/>\nmobile mental health crisis units, and the creation of a center of excellence<br \/>\nto promote quality services and promotion of evidence-based practices.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are able to track investments in each domain of our Theory of Change<br \/>\ndue to the flexibility of Blackbaud Grantmaking\u2019s Blueprint,\u201d Hession said.<br \/>\n\u201cBlueprint also allowed us to operationalize the Measurement Framework,<br \/>\na tool developed to measure outcomes and impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nFulton added, \u201cI never imagined our grantmaking system and processes<br \/>\nwould look so different today than they did 20 plus years ago.
