<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n    <p class=\"body-large\">\n        The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank saw a COVID-related surge in giving, with over 62,000 new\r\ndonors in 2020\u201415 times more new donors than the previous year. For Chief Development Officer\r\nRoger Castle, the opportunity to identify and prioritize prospects for major gifts\r\nwas unmistakable. With wealth and modeling insights from\r\nBlackbaud, his growing team acted decisively and secured\r\nan increase in major gift dollars of more than 450%.    <\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"wysiwyg wysiwyg-white white-bg\" id=\"wysiwyg-block_cd0ec01d64f182e7822b1d819cac6c4a\">\n            <h3>Los Angeles Regional Food Bank leverages<br \/>\ndata intelligence to swiftly pinpoint<br \/>\nhigh-priority donor prospects for major gifts<\/h3>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">If Los Angeles County could be its own state, it would be the 10th most<br \/>\npopulous state in America, with 10 million residents, many of them in need.<br \/>\n\u201cLA is very affluent, but we also have lots of people who go to bed hungry,\u201d<br \/>\nsaid Chief Development Officer Roger Castle of the Los Angeles Regional<br \/>\nFood Bank, one of the largest food bank operations in the U.S. \u201cEven<br \/>\nbefore the pandemic, hunger or food insecurity was a significant problem<br \/>\nwith 1 in 5 people in the county considered food insecure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">With Blackbaud\u2019s flagship cloud solutions for fundraising and online<br \/>\nmarketing firmly in place, LA Regional Food Bank stepped up and into<br \/>\nthe spotlight to answer the COVID crisis. Annual giving revenue jumped<br \/>\n358% in 2020 and remained 183% higher in 2021 than 2019 as the Food<br \/>\nBank increased its reach of people helped from 300,000 to 900,000 each<br \/>\nmonth\u2014a number that persisted through the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nAn influx of new donors played a key role in making it possible. \u201cWe saw<br \/>\n62,738 new donors in 2020,\u201d Castle said. \u201cTo put that in comparison, in 2019,<br \/>\nwe acquired 4,271 new donors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nYet LA Regional Food Bank\u2019s development team also saw an opportunity<br \/>\nfor long-range impact by retaining large numbers of donors and identifying<br \/>\nthose who were most likely to give major gifts, including support for a $165<br \/>\nmillion, five-year comprehensive campaign already underway. To make the<br \/>\nmost of the opportunity, they needed the right set of data intelligence<br \/>\ntools\u2014and they needed to act fast.<\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"wysiwyg wysiwyg-white white-bg\" id=\"wysiwyg-block_a546a486c33db7b84f1bbac36141a38c\">\n            <h3>A Believer in Wealth Insights<\/h3>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">The answer was clear to Castle: Blackbaud\u2019s wealth insights, along with the<br \/>\nstrategic guidance of Blackbaud consultants, would allow his team to move<br \/>\nswiftly and effectively and would integrate with the other cloud-based<br \/>\nsolutions LA Regional Food Bank already relied on. \u201cI\u2019m a huge believer in<br \/>\nwealth analytics, and I\u2019ve used Blackbaud products for about 20 years now.\u201d<br \/>\nGiven the LA Regional Food Bank\u2019s size and easy opportunities to involve<br \/>\nentertainment superstars, Castle\u2019s situation might not seem fully relatable<br \/>\nto everyone in fundraising. One favorite celebrity moment of his came<br \/>\nwhen Dave Grohl rallied other members of the Foo Fighters to stage a<br \/>\nrock show and barbecue in the Food Bank parking lot. But Castle, who<br \/>\nis originally from Tennessee, has also worked with muscular dystrophy<br \/>\nand cancer foundations, and before he joined the Food Bank as chief<br \/>\ndevelopment officer in 2017, he spent much of his career in nonprofits<br \/>\nworking in database administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nHe encourages all nonprofits to consider wealth screening\u2014no matter the<br \/>\nmoment or the size of the organization. Using predictive modeling with<br \/>\nguidance from Blackbaud\u2019s seasoned consultants, the development team<br \/>\nsoon created a list of 2,000 top major gift prospects, culled from a growing<br \/>\ndatabase of more than 300,000 supporters, and as the pandemic continued,<br \/>\nthey expanded the list to 3,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\n\u201cTiming is everything in fundraising,\u201d Castle said. \u201cUsing Blackbaud data<br \/>\ninsights to prioritize who might need more than an invite to a Zoom call was<br \/>\na top priority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nBased on the \u201csheer volume and capacity\u201d of those high-priority listings, and<br \/>\nthe fundraising momentum his team gained before the pandemic, he made<br \/>\na compelling case to the CEO to add two more development positions to<br \/>\ncultivate and steward major gifts. In 2022, the Food Bank also expected to<br \/>\nhire a planned giving director to cultivate and steward those who exhibit<br \/>\nindicators of planned giving propensity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nCastle was confident the return on investment would be well worth it, and<br \/>\nwhile securing major gifts can be a long-game endeavor, the move has<br \/>\nalready yielded early results.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nThe Food Bank already had a major gifts program, but with their new use of<br \/>\nanalytics and the new hires, major gifts revenue rose from $3.1 million in<br \/>\n2019 to an annual average of $17.3 million the next two years, including<br \/>\n11 $1 million+ gifts to the Food Bank\u2019s $165 million comprehensive campaign.<br \/>\nBecause of the all-around success of the campaign, the five-year campaign<br \/>\nwill be completed in 2022, a full year ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n<section class=\"pull-quote pull-quote__top-bottom white-bg\" id=\"pull-quote-block_4bc2783e89e3d403416b165f7c36c13f\">\n    <div class=\"pull-quote__wrapper\">\n                <div class=\"pull-quote__wrapper-content\">\n            <div class=\"pull-quote__wrapper-quote\">\n                <h4 class=\"h5\">\u201cReally, the prospects are already there in your database. And with his leadership,<br \/>\nthe food bank fully implemented Blackbaud Luminate Online\u00ae to boost<br \/>\nengagement through online fundraising and marketing automation.<br \/>\n\u201cWe put all these new systems in place before this deluge of new donors<br \/>\ncame in,\u201d Castle explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nUsing Raiser\u2019s Edge NXT in concert with Luminate Online and now<br \/>\nBlackbaud\u2019s data insights has been a powerful combination for the LA<br \/>\nRegional Food Bank, allowing the development team to finely tune email<br \/>\nmessages to giving levels and audiences, including volunteers. In fact, the<br \/>\nteam increased the number of email sends to donors from five to almost 90<br \/>\nin the first year of the pandemic, \u201cbut we\u2019re not sending to everybody,<br \/>\nevery time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">The impact of their overall fundraising success is tangible. In fulfilling their<br \/>\n$165 million goal for Building Hope: The Campaign for a Brighter Future, LA<br \/>\nRegional Food Bank could acquire a 256-square-foot building for expansion<br \/>\nof programs as well as increased efficiency and storage capacity\u2014needs<br \/>\nheightened by the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\n\u201cThis influx of money has changed the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, not<br \/>\njust for this moment, but for the future,\u201d Castle said. \u201cThis new building that<br \/>\nwe\u2019ll be able to renovate will increase our capacity two-or
