<span class=\"tag\">\n            Overview        <\/span>\n    <\/div>\n    <p class=\"body-large\">\n        As the Canadian Cancer Society responded to new conditions imposed by the pandemic,\r\nthey faced the challenge of preserving the positive experience associated with their well known\r\npartnership event the CIBC Run for the Cure. They converted to a successful virtual fundraising\r\nevent, relying on trusted Blackbaud solutions and evolving the experience by offering their\r\nparticipants custom avatar tools provided by Blackbaud partner Charity Dynamics.\r\nMore than a third of participants adopted the new Boundless Motion\u2122\r\navatars\u2014and those active fundraisers who did raised 4.5 to nearly\r\n6 times more for the cause.    <\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"wysiwyg wysiwyg-white white-bg\" id=\"wysiwyg-block_bd80ac8f8dd2ac625318974701d83a2c\">\n            <h3>CCS boosts engagement for virtual event with<br \/>\nBlackbaud and Charity Dynamics solutions<\/h3>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">Canadian Cancer Society\u2019s CIBC Run for the Cure takes place annually<br \/>\nin 56 communities across Canada with 5km and 1km options, making it the<br \/>\ncountry\u2019s largest single-day, volunteer-led event in support of the breast<br \/>\ncancer cause.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nWith more than a quarter century of history behind it, the CIBC Run for the<br \/>\nCure has a legion of return participants and volunteers, with many rallying<br \/>\nfriends and family to make donations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nFor years, the CIBC Run for the Cure organizers have relied on Blackbaud<br \/>\nTeamRaiser\u00ae as its peer-to-peer fundraising platform in harmony with<br \/>\nBlackbaud Luminate Online\u00ae, a comprehensive marketing solution, for<br \/>\nonline fundraising, nonprofit marketing automation, and engagement.<br \/>\n\u201cWe have really leveraged Blackbaud\u2019s tools and platform and enhanced<br \/>\nthem in ways that have helped us be successful in what is a very<br \/>\nchallenging market,\u201d said CCS Digital User Experience Director<br \/>\nSophia Santamaria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nWhen CCS decided in the early months of the pandemic to transform<br \/>\nthe 2020 CIBC Run for the Cure into a virtual event, they had a little more<br \/>\nthan four months to make the shift\u2014half the time they usually have for<br \/>\nplanning. \u201cWe really had to work together with our partners to push the<br \/>\ncreative envelope of what was possible, and what an event can look like,\u201d<br \/>\nSantamaria explained.<\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"wysiwyg wysiwyg-white white-bg\" id=\"wysiwyg-block_e00fc311be190e8289aa0a03e1d6cdae\">\n            <h3>Energizing Fundraisers with Avatars<\/h3>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">Thankfully, CCS had the advantage of Blackbaud solutions already in<br \/>\nplace, as well as the flexibility enabled through the Blackbaud Partner<br \/>\nNetwork, which includes Charity Dynamics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nEarly on, CCS decided to expand their use of Charity Dynamics solutions<br \/>\nto increase engagement virtually. In addition to Charity Dynamics\u2019<br \/>\nBoundless Fundraising\u00ae mobile app, which they were already using, they<br \/>\nadded customizable Boundless Motion avatars that participants could<br \/>\nuse in place of their main photo on fundraising pages, desktop and<br \/>\nmobile apps, and in related social media. The avatars drove engagement<br \/>\nby offering a fun opportunity for expression and by gamifying<br \/>\nparticipation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nWhether they wanted to recreate themselves or get more imaginative<br \/>\nwith their avatars, participants had a diverse range of options available<br \/>\nthat included appearance and clothing, and they could also add<br \/>\naccessibility options, such as a wheelchair or a guide. Slogans and<br \/>\nbranding on avatar apparel were available in English and French.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nAs fundraisers reached milestones, they could earn further<br \/>\ncustomizations, for example, adding fun accessories, such as hats and<br \/>\ntutus, as participants often wore at previous CIBC Run for the Cure<br \/>\nevents. \u201cYou unlock more accessories at the higher fundraiser levels,\u201d<br \/>\nexplained Santamaria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">The gamification approach provided by Charity Dynamics\u2019 avatar tools in<br \/>\nsync with Blackbaud solutions was clearly a game-changer:<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\u2713 36% of Run participants created and customized their own<br \/>\nBoundless Motion avatar.<br \/>\n\u2713 With the avatar option available, the fundraiser activation<br \/>\nrate\u2014reflecting those participants who engaged in peer-to-peer<br \/>\nfundraising in addition to registering for the run or walk\u2014was up<br \/>\n38% from the year before.<br \/>\n\u2713 Participants who created a custom avatar raised 4.5 times more<br \/>\nthan those who didn\u2019t, and those who created a custom avatar<br \/>\nAND used the mobile app raised 5.8 times more than those who<br \/>\ndid neither.<br \/>\n\u2713 Active fundraisers who also created an avatar raised an additional<br \/>\n$404 on average. Active fundraisers who created an avatar AND<br \/>\nused the app raised an additional $523 on average.<br \/>\n\u2713 The overall average raised per fundraiser grew by 22%.<\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"wysiwyg wysiwyg-white white-bg\" id=\"wysiwyg-block_297be7c0ca5d6f779a00959a8c04df32\">\n            <h3>Collaborating on a New Vision for a Virtual Event<\/h3>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">The CCS team looked to Blackbaud TeamRaiser and Blackbaud Luminate<br \/>\nOnline to support and promote other important changes to the event as well.<br \/>\nInstead of attending large in-person events in their local communities as<br \/>\nthey had in the past, participants across the country came together virtually<br \/>\nthrough a live, online event hosted by singer-songwriter Jully Black, with<br \/>\nmotivational speakers, survivor stories, and performances that included<br \/>\nBarenaked Ladies, Jess Moskaluke and Carolyn Dawn Johnson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nA montage of local fitness instructors, known for their past involvement with<br \/>\nthe Run, helped to warm up participants before they set out independently<br \/>\nfor their walk or run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\n\u201cIt was an extremely successful campaign, and it was a real way that<br \/>\npeople could engage with us,\u201d Santamaria said. She credited the event\u2019s<br \/>\nlongstanding title partner, CIBC, and its marketing agency, along with Charity<br \/>\nDynamics and Blackbaud for collectively embracing and supporting the<br \/>\nvision for the event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nSue Dalos serves as director of digital strategy and customer success for<br \/>\nCharity Dynamics, which purposefully creates products that integrate easily<br \/>\nwith Blackbaud solutions. She said that Blackbaud TeamRaiser and Blackbaud<br \/>\nLuminate Online provide a strong foundation for the kind of innovations that<br \/>\nbecame critical for fundraisers during the pandemic\u2014including the Boundless<br \/>\nMotion avatars. \u201cIt\u2019s a great canvas to paint on,\u201d Dalos said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nFor CCS, the smooth integration of Blackbaud and Charity Dynamics<br \/>\nsolutions likely accelerated the popularity of the Boundless Motion avatars<br \/>\nand the Boundless Fundraising mobile app. As Santamaria explained, \u201cWe<br \/>\nwanted the app experience and the web experience to feel the same.\u201d That<br \/>\nmeant participants could receive encouragement and motivation, no matter<br \/>\nthe technology they tapped into, and could continue to fundraise without<br \/>\nfrustrations or inconsistencies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\n\u201cIf everything feels seamless and easy,\u201d Santamaria said, \u201cthen we\u2019re making<br \/>\nit easier for participants to raise much needed funds and make an impact.\u201d<\/p>\n    <\/section>\n<\/div>\n                                    <div
