The university saw the\r\nnumber of donors increase 151% when fundraisers launched a new text-first\r\napproach to outreach with Blackbaud Guided Fundraising    <\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"wysiwyg wysiwyg-white white-bg\" id=\"wysiwyg-block_acd9cd06878bbd165e9b135b32e750d8\">\n            <h3>Student fundraisers connect with text first<\/h3>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">Tucked 20 miles from the Canadian border in upstate New York, St.<br \/>\nLawrence University maintains an enviable attachment to its graduates.<br \/>\nAnnually named by Princeton Review as one of the nation\u2019s top alumni<br \/>\nnetworks among private schools, St. Lawrence credits its fully residential<br \/>\ncampus for its connectedness. Despite a national downward<br \/>\ntrend for calling programs, St. Lawrence has rebounded from a pandemic<br \/>\ndrop-off, reconnecting with alumni through Guided Fundraising\u2019s<br \/>\nmultichannel capabilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nThis year, for the first time, they launched their outreach with a simple text<br \/>\nmessage rather than a phone call. The text allows for a potential donor to chat<br \/>\nvia text or schedule a convenient time they can talk on the phone to a student<br \/>\nfundraiser. Byrne said the ability to schedule a callback is particularly effective<br \/>\nsince people rarely answer unexpected calls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\n\u201cWith Guided Fundraising, even if someone doesn\u2019t make a gift, it\u2019s still a value<br \/>\nto have that conversation over text,\u201d Byrne said. \u201cKeeping people in touch<br \/>\nwith St. Lawrence and feeling good about the school shows that we care. And<br \/>\nthat\u2019s a great benefit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nAlumni, though, have indeed given gifts. For instance, St.<br \/>\nLawrence segments reunion groups to include three-year class clusters,<br \/>\nso the class before and the one after will be included in the 15th anniversary appeal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nByrne and her team were also able to reach just the Class of 2021 for<br \/>\na special invitation. In addition to a donation ask, 2021 graduates were<br \/>\nencouraged to register for a one-year reunion\u2014a unique event to make up<br \/>\nfor the many campus experiences the Class of 2021 missed during COVID.<br \/>\n\u201cGuided Fundraising allows us to develop personalized communications<br \/>\nfor any alumni segment,\u201d Byrne said. \u201cThe Class of 2021 was very receptive<br \/>\nto text first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nFor a small school\u20142,400 students\u2014St. Lawrence\u2019s advancement office<br \/>\nis bustling, with a rotation of 20 student ambassadors. While some<br \/>\nphone programs can be a grind, Byrne said Guided Fundraising\u2019s modern<br \/>\napproach provides context about the donor\u2019s history, giving, and<br \/>\ninterests, information pulled from the system of record and displayed in<br \/>\nan accessible design. This information helps student ambassadors have<br \/>\nauthentic conversations with alumni and donors and engage with them as<br \/>\ntrue fundraisers, not just callers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\n\u201cThey also love that there is a target ask amount,\u201d Byrne said. \u201cIt helps our<br \/>\nstudents build confidence, knowing there\u2019s an algorithm behind
