As an \u201carm\u2019s<br \/>\nlength body,\u201d or ALB, the charity channels funding from the government\u2014<br \/>\noperating at an arm\u2019s length from UK ministers\u2014while complying with<br \/>\nregulations for grantmaking, finance, fraud prevention, and cyber security<br \/>\nthat are especially detailed because a large portion of BFI\u2019s funding for grants<br \/>\ncomes from national lottery proceeds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nTo fuel the country\u2019s film community and stay transparent, BFI relies on the<br \/>\ncomprehensive grant management functionality of Blackbaud Grantmaking<br \/>\nsoftware, which staff and other collaborators can access on any device, in<br \/>\nany browser, anywhere around the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nBlackbaud Grantmaking\u2019s flexibility proved valuable through the COVID-19<br \/>\ncrisis and beyond as most BFI staff members embraced remote work for the<br \/>\nlong term, and as public funding for filmmaking in the UK surged as part of<br \/>\nthe government\u2019s economic recovery efforts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nIn 2022-23, BFI distributed \u00a393 million in grants \u201cto support creativity and<br \/>\nseek out the next generation of UK storytellers\u201d\u2014a nearly 45% increase<br \/>\nover pre-pandemic grant funding. \u201cWe couldn\u2019t deliver our grants program<br \/>\nwithout Blackbaud Grantmaking working as well as it does,\u201d said Paul<br \/>\nRichardson, head of counter fraud, scrutiny and risk for BFI. \u201cIt is absolutely a<br \/>\nkey, essential part of our grantmaking.\u201d<\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n<section class=\"in-story-fact\" id=\"in-story-fact-block_df37220235f24db5d275faf32aad2317\">\n            <div class=\"in-story-fact__wrapper\">\n                    <div class=\"in-story-fact__item w-lg-50\">\n                <h3>\n                    <mark>55% increase<\/mark>\n                <\/h3>\n                <p class=\"body-large\">in BFI grant programs<\/p>\n            <\/div>\n                    <div class=\"in-story-fact__item w-lg-50\">\n                <h3>\n                    <mark>45% spike<\/mark>\n                <\/h3>\n                <p class=\"body-large\">in BFI grant funding<\/p>\n            <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"wysiwyg wysiwyg-white white-bg\" id=\"wysiwyg-block_324b535bcd03567a404087e730b5f859\">\n            <h3>Delivering Efficiency and Effectiveness<\/h3>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">The number of BFI grant programs reached 28, compared to 18 before the<br \/>\npandemic. That\u2019s because BFI\u2019s grant programs have become more targeted<br \/>\nand specific, a welcome complexity that their Blackbaud Customer Success<br \/>\nmanager and Blackbaud partner Buzzacott helped make possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nAll the programs operate under the shared umbrella of BFI\u2019s Blackbaud<br \/>\nGrantmaking architecture, which expanded recently to include a second<br \/>\ndatabase to support BFI\u2019s large-scale operation and historic data. For industry experts outside of BFI<br \/>\nwho pitch in, including those who help evaluate scripts, the online system is<br \/>\nflexible and easy to access from other locations, Richardson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nGrant administrators save time thanks to Blackbaud Grantmaking\u2019s reminders<br \/>\nand other automations, and the software makes aspects of the reporting<br \/>\nprocess and behind-the-scenes storytelling of BFI-backed projects easier.<br \/>\n\u201cA lot of the people who work on the funds are creative types. They<br \/>\nare working for BFI because of their interest in film, and they might not<br \/>\nnecessarily be as interested in grant management\u2014that\u2019s secondary,\u201d he<br \/>\nexplained. \u201cHaving a system that minimizes the administrative burden allows<br \/>\nthem to focus more on the creative elements of the projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nGrateful for the continued improvements that they\u2019ve seen through their<br \/>\ncollaborative efforts with Blackbaud, Richardson is quick to share the<br \/>\nstory of BFI\u2019s grantmaking success with
