class=\"body-large\">\n        Oxford Brookes University has evolved from a small arts school in borrowed teaching rooms to\r\nbecome one of the UK\u2019s top modern universities. To fully engage the university\u2019s community of\r\ngraduates across the world, their alumni relations team realized they needed to streamline how\r\nthey capture, store, and apply alumni information by modernizing their database and reimagining\r\ntheir processes. The challenges seemed overwhelming\u2014until their Blackbaud Customer Success\r\nmanager joined them on their journey.    <\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"wysiwyg wysiwyg-white white-bg\" id=\"wysiwyg-block_35017a2852c1cc0487929bce762d7e49\">\n            <h3>Alumni relations team adapts their technology<br \/>\nto fit new mission with Blackbaud by their side<\/h3>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">Oxford Brookes University\u2019s alumni relations team had retargeted their<br \/>\nfocus from fundraising to engagement and, as a result, needed to digitally<br \/>\ntransform their sprawling database. Too many of the nearly 400,000<br \/>\nconstituent entries amassed over decades weren\u2019t relevant to the alumni<br \/>\nteam\u2019s evolving purposes. Their database had long been powered by Blackbaud<br \/>\nRaiser\u2019s Edge NXT, the leading software for fundraising and relationship<br \/>\nmanagement. They could adapt their use of Raiser\u2019s Edge NXT to leverage<br \/>\nthe system\u2019s purpose-built modern capabilities. And they did not need to<br \/>\nmake this transformative change by themselves. They could collaborate with<br \/>\na Blackbaud Customer Success manager who is deeply experienced in using<br \/>\nthis flexible software to achieve their new vision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nMeetings with their Customer Success manager helped them carve out<br \/>\nvaluable time to set meaningful priorities and see possibilities. Data<br \/>\ncleanup at scale became doable, as did dreams for redesigning their CRM\u2019s<br \/>\narchitecture. \u201cWithin our first session with our Blackbaud Customer Success<br \/>\nmanager, we were seeing results,\u201d said Development Systems Officer Daniel<br \/>\nCoogan. \u201cThat gives you the confidence to keep building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nCoogan had joined the staff at Oxford Brookes University shortly before<br \/>\nthey started on the project. While he had extensive experience working<br \/>\nwith nonprofit and commercial databases, he said the scope of what he<br \/>\nfound when he arrived at Oxford Brookes was \u201cquite daunting,\u201d with records<br \/>\nthat had been added over 30 years, some keyed to alumni who graduated<br \/>\nas far back as the 1940\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\n\u201cWe had a lot of things in our database that didn\u2019t necessarily line up well<br \/>\nwith each other, and trying to fix it quickly became all consuming,\u201d Coogan<br \/>\nsaid. \u201cWorking with our Blackbaud Customer Success manager allowed<br \/>\nus to step back, break the project down into key points and decide: \u2018This<br \/>\nis how we\u2019re going to do it from now on.\u2019 Honestly, this has been such a<br \/>\ncohesive experience.\u201d<\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n<section class=\"pull-quote pull-quote__top-bottom white-bg\" id=\"pull-quote-block_c21105ba9f05a028d322fb6fc93ed247\">\n    <div class=\"pull-quote__wrapper\">\n                <div class=\"pull-quote__wrapper-content\">\n            <div class=\"pull-quote__wrapper-quote\">\n                <h4 class=\"h5\">\u201cWithin our first session with our Blackbaud Customer Success manager, we were seeing results. By<br \/>\nembracing a more strategic, data-informed approach to managing alumni<br \/>\nrelationships the team hoped to benefit the entire university community.<br \/>\n\u201cBefore it felt like we were working for the data, like the database owned us,<br \/>\nand we were including things just for the sake of posterity,\u201d she said. \u201cNow<br \/>\nwe\u2019ve shifted to ask, \u2018What do we want to get from the database?\u2019 and that<br \/>\ninforms our decisions about what we input for building a narrative from the<br \/>\ndata to share with our stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\u201cWe\u2019ve really streamlined our processes and realized a lot of information we<br \/>\nwere capturing wasn\u2019t serving us or our objectives,\u201d Cossutta added. \u201cNow,<br \/>\nwe have data that\u2019s easily accessible that we actually need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">Cossutta and Coogan have tailored the database and the team\u2019s processes<br \/>\naround key pillars for engaging alumni as volunteers and active participants<br \/>\nin the university community. The pillars include student recruitment,<br \/>\nstudent experience, reputation and brand, and development. The revamped<br \/>\nsetup provides a smart structure for housing data that\u2019s easier to collect,<br \/>\nmeasure, analyse, and report. \u201cThese changes are speeding up processes<br \/>\nand creating a greater level of clarity on where we want to make impact,\u201d<br \/>\nCoogan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">As they continue, their team will work more strategically and redirect time<br \/>\nsaved to connecting with alumni in personal ways.
