supporting excellence across the institution. While setting the stage for a new\r\ncomprehensive campaign, key members of the University of Aberdeen\u2019s fundraising team created\r\na data infrastructure that brings people, processes, and technology together. In collaboration with\r\ntheir Blackbaud Customer Success manager, they made ambitious changes, engineering a smart,\r\nsustainable, and scalable system for fundraising and alumni engagement efforts.    <\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"wysiwyg wysiwyg-white white-bg\" id=\"wysiwyg-block_ddbeca9cb50d040c6b3dc3031e773988\">\n            <h3>Colleagues advance fundraising transformation<br \/>\nwith Blackbaud champion showing the way<\/h3>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">The University of Aberdeen had a history of fundraising success, long<br \/>\npowered by Blackbaud technology, which included a comprehensive<br \/>\n\u00a3150 million campaign\u2014one of the largest in the United Kingdom when<br \/>\ncompleted in 2012. Yet, a decade later, as Clare Livingston took on the role<br \/>\nof director of campaigns, she seized an opportunity that would transform<br \/>\nthe team\u2019s way of work and help them tap even more into the evolving<br \/>\ncapabilities of Blackbaud Raiser\u2019s Edge NXT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nLivingston was returning to the University after working for five years as a<br \/>\nconsultant, and she brought with her cutting-edge learnings for evidencebased fundraising best practices that she wanted to apply at the University.<br \/>\nAs her team prepared for the University\u2019s next comprehensive campaign,<br \/>\nshe realized they first needed to reimagine their structure and processes,<br \/>\nstarting with data and technology management.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nShe enlisted Frieda Strachan, the University\u2019s expert database and systems<br \/>\nmanager, in leading the initial changes needed to support the larger effort,<br \/>\nand their Blackbaud Customer Success manager collaborated with them<br \/>\nregularly throughout their journey. They relied on Blackbaud Raiser\u2019s Edge NXT,<br \/>\na powerful, purpose-built CRM for fundraising organizations, but they were<br \/>\nmissing opportunities the software could provide to supercharge and<br \/>\nstreamline donor cultivation and stewardship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nLivingston and Strachan considered the big picture, envisioning a \u201cdream<br \/>\nreport\u201d of University constituent and fundraising data available through<br \/>\nRaiser\u2019s Edge NXT that would effectively inform decisions for the next<br \/>\ncomprehensive campaign and other efforts. With that dream report in<br \/>\nmind, and with the support of their Blackbaud Customer Success manager,<br \/>\nthey reconsidered the ways their team recorded constituent data,<br \/>\nincluding how they attributed gifts to income streams: \u201cWe all came to the<br \/>\nconclusion that this is a piece that we have to get right up front,\u201d<br \/>\nLivingston said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nTheir conversations and work over the course of nine months led to a data<br \/>\nmapping overhaul in the existing database, a fundamental shift in reporting<br \/>\nresponsibilities, and a democratization of data. Historically, the University\u2019s<br \/>\nfinancial team oversaw fundraising reports but didn\u2019t share their reports<br \/>\nwith fundraisers in a consistent or timely way. \u201cI don\u2019t think I had ever seen<br \/>\nany of the financial reports,\u201d Strachan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nIt didn\u2019t have to be that way, their Blackbaud Customer Success manager<br \/>\nexplained. It\u2019s fundamental to<br \/>\nthe donor journey,\u201d Livingston said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nWith this new day of data storytelling, Livingston said she can provide highlevel decision-makers with clear, detailed reports on campaigns and appeals<br \/>\nthat weren\u2019t possible in the past. \u201cThe senior management team and Board<br \/>\nof Trustees are much more informed about our income and activity. They\u2019ve<br \/>\ngot more trust and confidence in the data that we\u2019re giving them, and we can<br \/>\nproduce that data really quickly,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-medium\">\nStrachan likewise described the results as \u201clife changing.\u201d She added, \u201cThere\u2019s<br \/>\nno question that what we\u2019re using now is right and recorded in a way that\u2019s<br \/>\neasy and accessible.\u201d<br \/>\nThat assurance and adaptability translates directly into time savings. Queries<br \/>\nthat used to consume hours now take a few quick clicks. In the past, it<br \/>\nmight take Strachan up to six weeks to collect and doublecheck detailed<br \/>\ninformation on gift revenue, fundraising, and donors for an annual CASE-Ross<br \/>\nreport, the reference for philanthropic performance used by many UK higher<br \/>\ned institutions. Now, she can generate a comparable report in less than a day.<br \/>\nLivingston and Strachan established a sturdy foundation for progress<br \/>\namid staff turnover and re-organization. Staying agile, they tapped into<br \/>\nBlackbaud\u2019s expertise and took greater advantage of the software\u2019s<br \/>\ncapabilities to amplify their effectiveness.
